W. Hering decided to share the responsibility,  of its preservation, with 40 carefully chosen  true nature loving enthusiasts as "guardians" of the environment.
The legal structure for this project is being scrutinized by professionals, in order to assure its subsistence, particularly preventing future land development within the legally protected area.
    It was found necessary to restrict public access to the area, in order to preserve the environment, which has been recovered during the past seven decades.
.    On November 2004, 62.38 Hectares, of the area were registered at the Registry of deeds, as "Legal Preserve",  approved by the Department of Environment of the State of São Paulo (DEPRN).
  .       In 2005, Agro Castanheiras partners' realized that a 10 Hectare 'Atlantic forest' area, along the shore line of the Billings Reservoir, "at the farm's East border", was in the imminence of being destroyed.  . Thus, after one year of negotiations with their original owners finally, in  2006 the area was purchased by his company -
Agro Castanheiras Ltda.
        In 2007, a 2,5 mt high concrete wall was built along the new border, in order to secure the additional Atlantic forest area against "environmentally unfriendly intruders"
